After our high-speed summer 2012 rush through Peoria and Springfield, we were able to slow down and smell the RF for a bit when we hit St. Louis, our featured market for the next few weeks here and on Tower Site of the Week. This week: most of the market’s AM stations, plus a handful of IDs that somehow never made it to the site from the Big Cross-Country Adventure of 2011. Enjoy!
It’s not that Bloomington, Illinois is all that small – it has plenty of FM signals filling the dial. But some combination of history and market dominance has combined to leave the Bloomington-Normal area with just one AM in the market. What an AM it is, though…check out Tower Site of the Week to learn more about the most remarkable WJBC (and its equally solid sister FMs, too, including the one where this site’s founder now toils!)
We’re filling in a whole bunch of Central Illinois gaps over the next few weeks right here on Toppy and over at Tower Site of the Week. This week, we have an inside look at WILL radio and TV over at Site of the Week, and a big pile of Champaign-Urbana IDs here on Toppy, filling in the gaps from our first pass through the market in 2011.
A quick update to go along with a recent Tower Site of the Week: take a listen to the stations in the small market of Crawfordsville, Indiana. This one includes an interesting bit of history – WVRG-LP (93.9) went silent a few months back after the FCC concluded that the local Calvary Chapel couldn’t operate both the LPFM and full-power WSRC (88.1).
