Featured Sound: Da Big 8

March 25, 2005 By Brian Leave a Comment

Sometimes we get IDs that we can’t use in the regular part of the site for some reason, but they’re just so cool that we have to post them. Circumventing our own rules, we call them Featured Sounds.

Frank Hartge sent along this 1972 ID of CKLW/Windsor-Detroit. If you dig old-school Top 40, you’re probably already a fan of CKLW, and if you’re a fresh new radio geek, you should get to know The Big 8.

Listen to this clip, then go to Uncle Ricky’s airchecks.com and check out the CKLW airchecks, especially the 20-20 news tape.

Norfolk: Where The People Are Friendly And The “L” Is Silent

March 25, 2005 By Brian Leave a Comment

I have thrown off the shackles of the bad audio converter and we’re back in business: Bob Corbin has sent more FM IDs from Norfolk-Virginia Beach. (Have you checked out Bob’s vartv.com lately? ‘Cause you should.)

More to come over the holiday weekend…check back early and often.

Audio Conversion Problems

A piece of software that covers converting PDF to Word can be a big help considering that through PDF conversion, either using a program of an online PDF converter, can change a document in ways that only a PDF conversion tool can handle, although if you can, you can always get document scanning Atlanta to scan the document for you and convert it to pdf.

In yet another byproduct of The Great Hard Drive Disaster of 2005, I’m looking for a new audio converter. I’ve been using dBPowerAmp for several years, but the new version I’ve been forced to use since the HD failure only shreds the audio instead of merely converting it.

So, I’m looking for suggestions: anyone know a good MP3 converter? I’m not going from .wav to .mp3, but from .mp3 to a different bitrate .mp3 — and it absolutely, positively, 100% has to preserve the ID3 tags and not change the file name. I’m striking out in finding such a beast, so I turn to you, the userbase. Any ideas are welcome…please hit the “Comments” link below. Thanks.

UPDATE (3/25): found an old version of dBPowerAmp, and life is good again. Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Norfolk

If Andrea True were writing this, I imagine she’d point out that there’s more, more, more of Norfolk-Virginia Beach, thanks to Bob Corbin of vartv.com fame. But she’s not, so we won’t.

Thanks to everyone who’s re-sent in IDs that were lost in the hard drive crash. It’s probably not a great sign that I haven’t heard anything from the drive recovery people yet, but we maintain hope.

Jeff Lehmann had sent a ton of stuff from Boston that got lost in the crash and was kind enough to re-send it. Dig on the audio from the home of the World Champion Red Sox (yeah, that one was for Fybush).

From the FCC’s Daily Digest:

LEIGHTON ENTERPRISES, INC., LICENSE OF STATION KBOT(FM), PELICAN RAPIDS, MN. Notified Leighton Enterprises, Inc. of its Apparent Liability for Forfeiture in the amount of $5,000 for broadcasting station identification announcements that did not contain the required call sign followed by the station’s community of license.
Action by: Chief, Investigations and Hearings Division, Enforcement Bureau.

Yep, they got clipped five bills for not legal ID-ing.

Not ID-ing. For 20 of 24 hours a day. For almost three months.

Ouch.

Read the whole scoop here. (Thanks to Lance at radio-info for the heads up.)
