Saturday Salutes

February 4, 2006 By Blaine Leave a Comment

While most of today’s update is Indiana based (three from Fort Wayne and one from Indianapolis), there’s also a nifty 1979 aircheck of KHTZ/Los Angeles. The Fort Wayne update has an old WYSR legal from when they had a Rhythmic Oldies format. Remember that fad? Happy listening!

Saturday Newness

January 28, 2006 By Blaine 2 Comments

Two new ones from Washington DC (WBMW and the 94.3fm version of WTOP-FM), St. Louis (KYKY and WFUN), and “World Class Rock” from WTTS/Indianapolis, Indiana. Happy Saturday (evening)!

Chicago (the city, not the musical group)

January 21, 2006 By Blaine Leave a Comment

Our first ID this Saturday is dated but very relevant. The last day of Rock music on WCFL – 15 March 1976 – was important for many reasons. Amongst them, DJ Larry Lujack was making his “Address to the Nation,” where amongst other matters, he handed down an important recommendation: For those who couldn’t give up Rock music, he would tell listeners where to go. This recommendation became quickly moot, as his recommended station – KHJ in Los Angeles – was obviously not heard in Chicago. The WCFL ID that starts off this update is from 5pm that day, when the Rock format ended and a sound loop of ocean waves ran for two hours. At 7pm, WCFL’s new Beautiful Music format kicked off. We’ll bounce around a bit for the remainder of the update: Next, we’ll head to Dayton and this 1996 WGTZ ID voiced by the late Keith Eubanks. Veteran Legal ID observers will recognize this one as one of the greats. Finally, one station updates in Indianapolis, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

What’s Zoo Flavor?

“69,000 watts of Zoo Flavor” starts out this June, 1994 aircheck from KMEL-FM/San Francisco. Also in today’s update, you’ll find a new ID’s from both Cedar Rapids and Portland, Oregon. Finally, a pair of ID’s from Indianapolis rounds out the weekend.

Cleaning Out My Closet…

(with no disrespect to Eminem). Here’s five ID’s for a cold Saturday night: First, a great Wolfman Jack talkover complete with the legendary NBC chimes featured on this 1984 ID from New York’s WNBC. Second, we tackle a pair of Portland’s: On the left, KEX/Portland, Oregon. On the right, WCSO/Portland, Maine. Third, a trip to suburban Dayton for WYSO. Finally, the Nation’s Capital – Washington, DC for WGAY.

Twas the day before the day before Christmas…

December 23, 2005 By Blaine Leave a Comment

A few new ID’s before the holiday weekend: First, a pair of ID’s from Fort Wayne. Second, the sign-on ID of Indianapolis‘ “Radio Now 93.1” before it changed calls to WNOU.
