Did the “Big Trip” of 2011 notch every single ID there was to be heard along the 132 miles of Interstate 4 as it wends its way southwestward from Daytona Beach to Tampa? It sure came close, and this week’s update concludes our ride along that traffic-clogged artery.
And while Lou might still have Miami to himself (for now!), we’re still hanging on to the questionable honor of having notched (with help from travel partner Garrett Wollman) a pretty comprehensive set of IDs from greater Lakeland, the last gasp of central-Florida sprawl before I-4 dumps its way into Tampa Bay proper.
Next week: Sa-ra-so-ta! (Where we can continue the internal argument we started this week about whether a station licensed to an outlying market, like, say WLLD 94.1 Lakeland, should go with Tampa if that’s the community it’s really serving. Established Toppy practice was already to list WLLD and WKES 91.1 with Tampa, and we’ll do the same next week when we get to Sarasota-licensed mega-rimshot WHPT 102.5.)
