As CBS prepares to launch its new FM All-News station in Washington, DC a pair of calls with their places already reserved for them in the Call Letter Hall Of Fame are on the move (possibly for the short term before moving again).
WNEW, best known for their use at 1130 and 102.7 in New York have done like lots of New Yorkers and had been spending its golden years in West Palm Beach. They will soon be moved to the new News station coming to 99.1 in Washington in January 2012, but as of today have been parked at 1580 in Morningside, MD.
Where it traded spot with WHFS. Best known from its Progressive Rock era at 102.3 in Bethesda, MD and its long Modern Rock run at 99.1 Annapolis, MD, WHFS has also spent time in recent years at 105.7 Catonsville, MD and 1580 Morningside, MD. As of today, they head to 106.3 in Jupiter, FL.
The 99.1 that was once WHFS and will soon be WNEW had a slight change of its own recently as its city of license changed from Annapolis to Bowie, MD. Its WLZL calls will soon move to 107.9 in Annapolis on the station CBS acquired from Family Radio. The former WFSI is currently WBGR, swapping calls with its former sister station located at 860 in Baltimore.
