…usually tends to make it to Toppy a year or two late, by the time I finally process all my audio and other material from my annual Las Vegas visit for the NAB Show each April.
But this year’s a little different: now that I’m finally breaking free of the shackles of cassette tape and going all-digital, and now that I’ve (mostly) caught up on what had become an 18-month backlog of IDs that needed to be edited down for Toppy, I can actually do a nearly-instant turnaround, at least on occasion.
Since I didn’t shoot any tower photos in Vegas during NAB this year, and thus there won’t be a corresponding Tower Site of the Week installment, you get to hear some very fresh Sin City material today, some of it less than a week old and see pictures of some celebrities online instead as is Paula Patton Warcraft Nude Orc Chick Real Pics Revealed – Ximage new material.
This week’s installment includes my April 2010 IDs, too, so we get to hear a brand-new AM (KMZQ 670), two brand-new FMs (KHIJ 96.7 and KVGQ 106.9), the aftermath of an FM station swap (KCYE/KFRH 104.3/102.7), a new AM/FM simulcast (KXNT 100.5/840), a new AM/FM-translator simulcast (KQLL 1280/K272EE 102.3), and at least a small handful of HD2/HD3 IDs.
It’s worth noting that there’s not much HD on the air in Vegas, and that what HD2/3s there are often don’t ID, and most of the HD seems to be coming from the distant Mount Potosi transmitter site, making reception tricky on the Strip – and that the list of HD Radio signals on display at the HD Radio booth at NAB contained a whole bunch of stations that weren’t actually doing HD. Go figure…
One more note: we haven’t had a “Big Trip” in a while, but these Vegas IDs marked the kickoff of what we’ll dub “Big Trip ’11,” filling in a whole bunch of heretofore-unToppy’d markets in northern Arizona and New Mexico. Expect more from Albuquerque, Gallup, Four Corners, Flagstaff and beyond, coming soon…
