This past weekend my girlfriend Stacy and I took a trip up to Evansville, IN to attend the final University of Evansville regular season men’s home basketball game at Roberts Stadium. Stacy loves basketball and played it through college (on a full scholarship), and I wanted her to see a game at Roberts Stadium at least once. That arena, which opened in 1956, will be replaced this fall with a brand new facility.
I’m a UE graduate, and I was well overdue for a return trip to the city where I lived for 4+ years. It’s where I got my start in radio (WUEV in 1995) and TV (WEHT in 1997) and a place that I have enough memories and stories from to fill a book. It was interesting to see much how Evansville has grown since my time there, at times almost enough to leave me disoriented.
Most of the people I know from my Evansville days have moved on to other places, though I still have some friends in town there. It was nice to get together with a couple of my Phi Kappa Tau fraternity brothers and their wives for dinner after the game, and overall it was a great weekend.
