Things stirred a bit in the Baltimore market this past week or two. Specifically, 104.3 is going through a transformation from alternative to contemporary hits. The new format is branded “Z-104” and the new call is to be WZFT. Currently, they are playing 10,000 hits without ads while stunting the “Z-104” brand. As part of the change they requested a new call WZFT with the call change taking effect in December, according to Scott. But someone at the station jumped the gun and started to use the WZFT call earlier this week before it was official. I happened to catch the call change in a 17 November clip. By 21 November they were back to WCHH; the station discovered its mistake. On the HD2 side, the format has changed from eRockster. I am not sure exactly what is eRockster, but it sounded like an eclectic mixture of who knows what the few times I listened. I heard a South Asian sounding song when I recorded the clip for Toppy. Now they dropped eRockster and they are running a rock format which I have not yet determine exactly which type what yet. As far as I can determine, the HD2 side has been using the WCHH HD2 call the whole time.
So, I tried to encapsulate the activity and have posted it here under the Baltimore section.
WCHH-HD2 is now running “Rock Nation”, Clear Channel’s “Premium Choice” Modern Rock format. I believe Channel 104.3 was running that format overnights.
“eRockster” is more or less Clear Channel’s College Radio format. Lots of Indie Rock, Underground Hip-Hop, and Classic Alternative.
