This past Sunday night I had the pleasure of taking in my first game at the new Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals. The game, with their NL Central division rival Cubs, was sold out and broadcast nationwide on ESPN.
St. Louis is a great baseball town, with a strong fanbase that backs their hometown team with tremendous passion. Moreover, with the new stadium (which opened in 2006), they have a beautiful ballpark in which to enjoy games. The old Busch Stadium (which I attended a game at in 2002) was from the cookie-cutter stadium era, and while the Cards tried their best to make it as fan-friendly as possible, it was an antiquated facility unworthy of being the home of St. Louis baseball.
It was from within the new Busch Stadium that I recorded most of the IDs for my latest Toppy update, featuring fresh selections from St. Louis. I’ve also added a one-off out of Marion/Carbondale, IL that was recorded by chance during a lunch stop at a Mexican restaurant on the long trip back home yesterday. I’ll have much more from St. Louis soon.
