In this week’s installments, both here and over at Tower Site of the Week, we wrap up our coverage of my April 2008 visit to Bakersfield, California.
In the intervening thirteen months, some things have changed on the Bako FM dial: Clear Channel’s classic rock KDFO moved from 96.5 (where we heard it in 2008) back to its former home at 98.5, while the 96.5 facility was spun to Lotus as part of the CC privatization. Lotus is now running 96.5 as classic hits “Max” KVMX, and we’ll have to go back at some point to hear it.
When we do, at least one of the signals we taped in 2008 will be gone: financially-troubled Radio Campesina shut down KBDS 103.9 last November, and the station is up for sale now.
Oh yeah…one more thing that can change dramatically in a year. On the morning of May 13, 2008, little Eli B. Fybush was a newborn, weighing in at not much more than a brick of C-90s and a pack of AA batteries. Now he’s a year old, and pulling said bricks of C-90s off the shelf in daddy’s office every chance he gets. Happy first birthday, little guy!
(And now you know why I’m still more than a year behind in posting these IDs…)
