Big Trip ’07 spent only a few hours in scenic, historic Butte, Montana last August – enough time to see most of the towers (you can, too, over at Tower Site of the Week) and to grab a nearly complete set of legal IDs from this old mining boomtown.
“Nearly,” in this case, because the local college station (KMSM 107.1) was off the air when we passed through. And here’s a helpful reminder should you be traveling to collect airchecks: don’t forget to take advantage of translators when they’re convenient. If we’d followed our own advice, we’d have cleaner tape of KGLM-FM and KQRV, both of which serve Butte on translators that put in much better signals than the distant primaries that we taped.
