It sits on the other end of the state from the “big city.” It has more than half a million people in its metropolitan area. There’s a river gorge and falls right in the heart of the downtown area. It’s known for its educational institutions. You can get there via I-90.
Are we talking about Toppy Northeast’s hometown of Rochester NY? We could be – but in this case, it’s Spokane WA, the Big Trip 2006 stop that has almost all those things in common with Rochester. (Actually, we’re the “Flower City,” though we’re known for our annual Lilac Festival every May.)
In any case, this week we begin a two-week look at the radio scene in Spokane, both in audio form here and in pictures over at Tower Site of the Week. Lots of Spokane FMs in this week’s update (though not quite all of them, thanks to a recalcitrant tape-deck timer; we’d love to hear from anyone who can fill in the gaps!), and next week we’ll do the AM dial and move on to Moses Lake, Ephrata and Grand Coulee.
