It’s become an almost universal shorthand for Portland, Oregon: “PDX,” the abbreviation for the Portland International Airport. And while I’m sure it’s a fine airport and all that, the crew from the Big Trip 2006 flew through Seattle, since the flights were much cheaper from the East Coast.
You’d think there would be a KPDX radio somewhere along the way here, but no – that fine call belongs to the local My Network TV (ex-UPN, ex-Fox) station. So you’ll have to content yourself with everything else on the “PDX” FM dial, with a nice complete run from KBVM to KVMX in this week’s update.
Check out more Portland towers over at Site of the Week – and come back next week as we push east along the Columbia River to Hood River and The Dalles!
Keep up the good work guys. I love perusing through the web site.
For the record, GEG stands for Geiger Field, the original name of Spokane International Airport. The name was changed to its current appellation in the 1960’s. I can still remember it being called by the original name…

For the record, GEG comes from the original name of the Spokane International Airport. Up until the 1960’s when the airport got its current name it was called Gieger Field. Gieger was a pioneer aviator in the Spokane Area.
