Earlier this month, I attended a conference for work in Myrtle Beach, SC. Note to people who plan these things: Myrtle Beach may be inconvenient to reach, but it is a wonderful destination and place to be when attending a conference. It was the first time I had seen palm trees, or the ocean, since I moved from Tampa this past March. It made me feel a little nostalgic.
I rolled tape on the trip there, and I captured one-off IDs in Knoxville, TN and Asheville, NC. The majority of what I recorded is from the Myrtle Beach market, though there were a couple of big stick signals from Wilmington, NC that were strong enough for me to tune in from my 10th floor hotel room. Also, a multiple-station ID ended up falling into the Columbia, SC section.
Things I learned from listening to the airchecks: Myrtle Beach is the “shag capital of the world” and the coastal area is referred to as the Grand Strand.
