New Entries Aplenty

April 24, 2005 By Lou 1 Comment

Thanks to some generous submissions made to this site, we have more than a dozen new IDs posted today from several sources, including our first entries in a number of markets.

I’ve posted a couple of Tampa Bay area IDs; I have a stand-alone for 860 WGUL up now, as well as the brand new calls (WFUS) for the new U.S. 103-5. Some lucky CC “The Beat” station will likely end up with the station’s old WTBT call letters.

Thanks to Brian Holmes for the Ft. Walton Beach/Destin, FL entries. It can be tough to differentiate between a Ft. Walton Beach and a Pensacola station for listing purposes, so I let 100000watts.com be the tiebreaker for me… and the entries all fell to the Ft. Walton Beach side.

VARTV.com’s Robert Corbin was first on the board with debut entries from Salisbury-Ocean City, MD and Elizabeth City-Nags Head, VA. He also gave us another ID (a great sounding one from an LP station, at that) from Roanoke/Lynchburg, VA. Thanks also to Peter Vieth with his debut entry, also from the Roanoke market, with the rather interesting “Radio IQ” dual ID.

Props to Jeff Lehmann, who gave us our first ID from Augusta, ME. What’s amazing to me is that Jeff recorded this from 163 miles away, thanks to his new APS-13 antenna. The station he recorded is a Class B, so it’s not like it was a 100kw monster or something. Typically my inclination is to discourage DX entries (I’m not sure how Brian feels about that, though) since there tends to be too much static/crackling/distortion, but this one came through very well.

And for those of you who like to hear IDs that aren’t weeks (or hours) old, Rikki Eaton has hooked us up with some IDs from the 1990s from Western Michigan. Trying to figure out where to place them was tricky, but there are new IDs in Big Rapids, MI and Ludington, MI. Ludington isn’t an Arbitron market, as it’s in this no man’s land next to Lake Michigan. The 94.1 signal licensed to Pentwater, MI covers that area, but not enough else to even rimshot another market, so Ludington has its own space on here now.

My stance on DX submissions is pretty much the same as yours, Lou: if it sounds good (as Jeff’s does) then we’ll use it, and if it sounds staticy and such, we probably won’t. Everything’s encouraged, though, and if you have questions, please drop us a note!
